The Golf is a practical hatchback boot: wide, low, and much longer once folded. The opening is 41″ wide × 30¾″ tall, and the floor runs 29⅞″ with the seats up, stretching to 58¼″ folded, a gain of 28⅜″. Even at its narrowest the floor holds 39¾″, so wide boxes sit flat without a fight. The sill is a friendly 26¾″ with only a 6¼″ drop, so loading is easy on your back. Seats up it is short, better for cases and shopping, seats down it takes longer flat-packs. Fold one side and slide long items along the wider floor.

One box, 60″ × 15½″ × 2¼″, at 12 lb 8 oz: the DÄNKA is light enough to carry one-handed and long enough to be awkward anyway. Weight is not the problem; length is. A 60″ slab will not sit crosswise in a normal trunk, so it rides diagonally or waits for a folded seat. Nearly any hatchback takes it with the bench down, a wagon or SUV swallows it flat, and it can angle across the rear seat of a sedan in a pinch. Feed it nose first through the opening and keep it supported along its length; a carton only 2¼″ thick flexes if you bridge it, and the corners dent before anything else.
